Bastrop County Wildfire Damage

Was your home burned down or damaged by the Bastrop Wildfire?

***Please dial this number of you are calling about a claim relating to the Bastrop Wildfires: 1-800-220-9341***

In September 2011, the most destructive isolated wildfire in Texas history swept through Bastrop County and its surrounding areas. By the time the fire was extinguished, it killed two people and caused approximately $250 million in property damage. It is estimated that over 1,600 homes were destroyed by the fire. If you or someone close to you has been affected by the Bastrop County wildfire, we are here for you in your time of need.

Individuals with homeowners insurance who are hoping to recover compensation on their policies must be prepared to go head to head with the insurance companies. When a large-scale disaster like this occurs, the insurance companies anticipate large financial pay-outs and will do anything within their power to cut corners, thereby cheating homeowners out of money they need to bounceback from the wildfire. Residents of Austin, Bastrop, Lost Pines & Smithville who were affected the most by this disaster will need to make sure they take every action possible to defend themselves against the insurance companies, and this begins by hiring a good attorney to handle the wildfire insurance claim.

There are 3 different scenarios in which a claim can be filed:

1. Your home or business has been completely destroyed.

In this situation, a total loss fire insurance claim would be necessary. Keep in mind, this isn't like totaling a car on an auto insurance policy; In Texas, you will only be paid the amount it would cost to replace the property, regardless of how much insurance you carried.

2. Your home or business was partially burned or destroyed.

If you find your property in this state, you will need to demonstrate to the insurer why those damaged areas need to be rebuilt instead of patched or repaired. They will of course try to pay you the lowest amount possible to make these reparations which is why you need legal representation.

3. Your home appears to be in good shape from the outside, but the interior has been damaged by smoke from the fire or water from the fire-fighting efforts.

This type of scenario will result in a very difficult claim. The insurer will typically send out a vendor to "clean" the property but this will not help replace the items that have been completely ruined. Convincing the insurance company to pay to replace such items will be very difficult.
