Splendora police officer critically injured in crash

By: Dale Lezon

Houston Chronicle

A Splendora police officer is in critical condition after being involved in a wreck with an 18-wheeler in Montgomery County early Monday morning.

The two-vehicle crash happened about 1:30 a.m. on 1485 at Roberts Road, according the Department of Public Safety.

Authorities said the officer, identified as Ryan Simpson, was taken by a medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center. Officials said he is in critical condition.

The truck driver was taken to Kingwood hospital for minor injuries from the wreck.

Troopers said the driver of an 18-wheeler was turning from Roberts Road onto FM 1485 when the patrol car, which was traveling westbound on FM 1485, slammed into the side of the truck.

Officials are still investigating the crash, but troopers said the officer, who was returning from a service call, did not have his emergency lights on.

No citations have been issued. The crash is being investigated.
